    Application for Membership

    WIO is a membership-based organisation and our key stakeholders are our members.  Those who use the service for direct support include people negotiating their gender, sexuality and or intersex status, family, friends, work colleagues and fellow students and any other relevant people. Those accessing the service for education and training include educational institutions, health and human services agencies, and the government and private sectors.

    WIO is a unique organisation in Australia providing a specialist service to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex people and their families across Tasmania. We are proud of our reputation as an inclusive, community driven organisation respected by our members and other key stakeholders. WIO has the capacity, resources and desire to achieve our strategic goals.

WIO has played a key role in identifying the nexus between suicide prevention and the importance of embracing diversity. WIO provides services designed to meet the needs of people negotiating their gender, sexuality and or intersex status through:

                   Individual counselling and/or support;

                   Support groups;

                   Student education and support in schools;

                   Training in workplaces

                   Policy development with government agencies;

                   Partnership projects with mainstream services;

                   Partnership projects with LGBTI organisations;

    WIO is valued for its commitment to engage with individuals, and their families and friends, as well as service providers, educational institutions and employers in an empathetic way.

WIO understands its target group, and LGBTI communities more widely and is inclusive of all 5 communities: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex. WIO reflects a sophisticated understanding of LGBTI community members’ culture, experiences and needs.

WIO honors people's identifying status.
WIO recognises the complexities implicit in responding to LGBTI communities.

    our strategic partners

    WIO is well respected throughout the sector and is supported by other community sector organisations and government agencies. WIO partners with Tasmanian Council on AIDS, Hepatitis and Related Diseases, and the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group to form Be Proud Tasmania or BPT. The first BPT project researched people's experiences of prejudice and discrimination based on gender, sexuality and intersex status. WIO is working with Relationships Australia
on a State Suicide Prevention Project
WIO also partners with the UTas School of Social Work taking students on placement to create greater understanding of LGBTI-inclusive practice. WIO is also one of the Tasmanian members of the National LGBTI Health Alliance, and acts as a conduit for Alliance activities and resources into Tasmania.

    WIO has Deductible Gift Recipient status from the Australian Taxation Office which affords the organisation a range of taxation incentives for staff and donors

    Working It Out recognises, upholds and promotes the value of LBGTI community driven and owned processes and therefore respects that for some people their membership of the organisation may be a private matter.  If you would like correspondence from us (for example the newsletter) to be sent to a particular address or if you would prefer the sender is not shown on the envelope please let us know on this form.

    WIO Membership Renewal

    The Association annual membership expires on 30 June each year.  A notice to renew your membership will be forwarded early in that month. New members joining after April 30th will be considered members for the following financial year.
