    Project Partnerships

     Partnership projects with mainstream services

We aim to develop more LGBTI-inclusive mainstream services to which WIO can refer people, in order to both extend the variety of services available to LGBTI people and to decrease the demand on WIO, for example:

    • Relationships Australia Tasmania Suicide Prevention Project
    • Headspace and WIO youth project OUTspace in the South
    • Headspace and WIO in the North
    • A number of Tasmanian mental health service providers to deliver the MindOUT! Champions Project.

“As a service that works to ensure people with lived experience of mental illness and drug use are recognised as the experts in their own lives, we see inclusive practice as essential to making sure anyone who wants to access our service can do so safely and feeling confident they will receive the respect they deserve and the assistance they need.” - MindOUT! Champion

“Since becoming involved in the MindOut Champions project, [our service] has had an increase in clients disclosing their gender and sexuality identity to staff, as clients are identifying that [we are] a safe space to do this. This may be because staff have had training to increase their knowledge base around working appropriately with people from the LGBTI community, as well as ... participating in more LGBTI events, such as Wear it Purple Day, IDAHOBIT and the TasPride March." – MindOUT! Champion

    • The City of Hobart's Youth Arts and Recreation Centre to deliver the Rainbow Youth events

“Thank you so much for organising such a wonderful night! It was a safe, inclusive space, which was free from judgement and bias. Everyone who attended was accepting of others, and I'm quite confident that no-one felt isolated or alienated. It was made evident that even with our varied identities, we are all equal, and most importantly, we are all human beings. Thank you for allowing us to be ourselves - without any fear of prejudice. Again, thankyou Working It Out and Youth ARC (and all the other people involved in making this night occur) for a lovely Rainbow Prom.” – Rainbow Youth event attendee

     Partnership projects with LGBTI organisations

We have projects which provide wider connections and perspectives within the LGBTI community, for example:

    • Be Proud Tasmania Coalition (most recently, the support for parents of LGBTI young people and website Being Proud)
    • Wear it Purple
    • Wear it with Pride
    • TasPride Artfully Queer Exhibition participation and Award
    • National LGBTI Health Alliance (Tasmanian Director and Chair of the Board)
    • TasCAHRD and ACON (AIDS Council of NSW) for the delivery of the LGBTI Inclusivity for the Aged Care Sector training package
