New Northern LGBTIQA+ School Inclusion Officer

Hi all! I’m Aoife (pronounced ee-fa), my pronouns as she/they and I am the new LGBTIQA+ School Inclusion Officer for Southern Tasmania.

I am an educator who is passionate about inclusion, collective care and community building. I have spent the past three years working as a teacher in Tasmanian public high schools and prior to that taught English as a Foreign Language in Mexico City for several years.

I know what it feels like to be a queer kid in high school who struggles to imagine living authentically and unashamedly. I also know what it feels like to be an educator that really wants to be a strong advocate for LGBTQIA+ students buts lacks the time, support, knowledge and confidence to truly feel like I’m being impactful. I hope to use these experiences to be a strong advocate and support for LGBTIQA+ staff, students and families.
